Not far from the Salton Sea (and about a mile from Slab City) is the late Leonard Knight’s epic folk-art masterpiece Salvation Mountain. A religious monument that manages to bring to mind the childhood board game Candy Land, Salvation Mountain is a spectacular three-story mound of adobe adorned with pastoral designs and biblical quotations and well worth seeking out if you’re ever in the greater Palm Springs area.
