loveNot far from the Salton Sea, and a few miles outside of the desert town of Niland, is the late Leonard Knight’s quirky and colorful folk-art masterpiece Salvation Mountain. A religious monument that manages to bring to mind the childhood board game Candy Land, Salvation Mountain is a spectacular three-story mound of adobe adorned with pastoral designs and biblical quotations and well worth seeking out if you’re ever in the Palm Springs area.

If you’re interested in viewing either of my two photo essays about Leonard’s elaborate outdoor art installation and assemblage, they begin here and here.

Photo taken with a Canon EOS 500 SLR and Kodak Max 400 color print film (35mm cropped square).
