VWh.jpgToday’s photo isn’t technically all that great (it was overcast and the light wasn’t very good) but it gives you an idea of what Slab City’s residences are like. There is so much creativity in this poverty-stricken, off-grid “squattersville,” that it’s not much of a stretch to think of it as one big art installation.

  1. For me this is such an incredible illustration of the innate drive to create. Everyone has something to express, we just use different tools. I love this kind of folk art. In the town I used to live in, there was a guy who created amazing art with empty Clorox bottles. Where there’s a will, there’s a way… :-)

    • You would love Slab City, Lori. This photo is just the tip of the iceberg. There were some spectacular creations and camps out there but I felt inhibited and didn’t take nearly as many photos as I would have liked. I was trying to be respectful and not too much of a lookey-loo. :-)
