bombayivanTo say that Bombay Beach has seen better days would be an understatement. A popular vacation spot during its 1950s heyday, this tiny Salton Sea town has been adversely affected not only by the tremendous ecological challenges facing the region but, at 223 feet below sea level, from severe flooding as well. Two documentaries that examine the past and present of this fascinating and strangely compelling place: Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea and the beautiful and unusual Bombay Beach. Although quite different from each other, both films are well worth seeking out.

    • Thanks, Marcie. It is sad but Bombay Beach is oddly enchanting, too. I could just as easily have pointed my camera in another direction and captured something beautiful. I guess that’s why I keep going back. :-)
