jan2After hiking a very small section of the Pacific Crest Trail, the thing that struck me most (besides the spectacular views) was the changing terrain and diversity of plant life there. Not far from Idyllwild, and roughly 4,000 feet above sea level, the hike was a bit of a revelation, offering around each new corner an amalgam of beauty that was, for the most part, much more evocative of the desert than the mountains.
