evilspirits2Bombay Beach (223 feet below sea level and the lowest spot on the Salton Sea) has long been prone to flooding. A popular vacation spot during its 1950s heyday, its shoreline is now in ruins, littered as it is with the decomposing remains of countless homes and trailers. It’s the strange juxtaposition of beauty and blight, not to mention the unmistakably eerie vibe there, that keep me returning even though I’m always nervous and on edge the entire time I’m there.
